Harry L. Doll of Jim Thorpe has announced plans to retire from public office and will leave the post of Carbon County Recorder of Deeds effective Dec. 31.

He announced his resignation in a letter to Gov. Milton Shapp who will be charged with naming a successor to complete Doll’s unexpired term that ends next year.

Doll has had a varied career in the political field, having served as county coroner, treasurer, register of wills and recorder of deeds, as well as being the deputy treasurer and chief clerk to the county commissioners.

During his tenure as coroner, he was also called upon to serve as sheriff four times.
