Tamaqua rapid river rise

The Little Schuylkill River roars at just over 5 feet deep at 11:30 a.m. Monday near Cedar Street in Tamaqua. According to provisional information provided by the United States Geological Survey, close to four inches of rain fell between Sunday and Monday, doubling the water’s depth in a matter of hours. The river was flowing at 2.75 feet before the rain began to fall. Some residents reported water in the basement due to saturated ground. DONALD R. SERFASS/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
