Schuylkill Township police officer suspended

A Schuylkill Township police officer arrested on charges he used a police computer to find his ex-girlfriend and then confront her and her new boyfriend was suspended by the township supervisors Monday night.

The supervisors voted unanimously to suspend Jason Lex, 49, of Ringtown, until two counts of unlawful use of computers and other crimes, both third-degree felony charges, and one count of official oppression, a second-degree misdemeanor charge, are disposed of in connection with an incident in which Lex is alleged to have used the Justice Network (JNET) computer to trace the address of the new boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend, go to their home, confront the couple, and ask the woman to come back to him on May 17.

Citing the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Safety Act of 2004, which states Lex had to be suspended until the charges are disposed of, the supervisors voted to suspend Lex, who had been off-duty after the incident, but was reinstated in September.

Lex was arraigned on the charges Dec. 7 before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko in Port Carbon. A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 19 before Plachko was moved to 1:45 p.m. Jan. 30 before Plachko.
