Former Marian kicker will play in the NCAA Division 3 football championship game

A 2021 graduate of Marian Catholic High School who was a kicker on the Colts’ gridiron team will join his teammates at Cortland State University in playing for the NCAA Division 3 National Championship this coming weekend.

Mike Baloga and his Red Dragon teammates won the national semifinal game Saturday over Randolph-Macon College, 49-14. The matchup was played in Ashfield, VA.

The win advances the Red Dragons to the title game, known as the Stagg Bowl, on Friday at Salem Stadium, Salem, VA, where they will meet North Central College, Naperville, Illinois, a 34-27 winner over Wartburg, College, Waverly, Iowa, in the other semifinal game.

In this past weekend’s seminal win, Baloga booted 7-out-of-7 extra points for the Red Dragons.

In his senior year at Marian, he split the uprights from 47 yards our to set a field goal record in a game played at the Stan Dakosty Field of the Men of Marian Stadium, Hometown, against Shenandoah Valley
