Carbon County Environmental Education Center in Summit Hill has announced the following events.

CCEEC is located at 151 E. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill. The center building is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.

Holiday Crafts

A holiday crafts event will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday.

A variety of materials are supplied at this annual event, including natural items such as holly berries and evergreen boughs, with plenty to inspire creativity.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own craft supplies to use or share, such as ribbon, candles, and small decorations.

Children are welcome to join in the fun with simple painting and stamping activities. A $5 per-adult donation is requested.

Geminid Meteor Showers

Retired PSU biology professor and night-sky enthusiast Dr. Carl Frankel guides a look at stars and planets, on a night that promises more meteor sightings than any other in the season.

The Geminid Meteor Showers viewing will take place at 6 p.m. on Dec. 14.

The session begins with an introduction indoors, then participants head out to the parking lot for a look up. Wear your PJs, bring a blanket, and enjoy some cookies and hot chocolate.

All ages and interest levels are invited to attend. Rain or clouds will postpone the event until a later date. Be sure to register so you can be notified of changes to the schedule.

Nature Club

Nature Club returns at 1 p.m. on Dec. 17, open to all children in grades K through 6.

Each month’s session begins with a short “business meeting” in which kids follow Robert’s Rules for meeting participation, before moving on to hikes, games, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities.

“Winter Birds” is the topic for December, where bird anatomy, migration, and birdfeeder basics will be covered. Nature Club is free for all CCEEC members. A $5 donation per child is requested of non-members.
