Chestnuthill residents concerned about auto shop

A conditional use hearing was held this week in Chestnuthill Township to address Christosa Holdings LLC request for a vehicle sales and repair facility to be located at lots 61 and 62 of Brodhead Manor, Firehouse Lane in Brodheadsville. This would include 16 parking spots.

At a Nov. 15 planning commission meeting residents voiced concern over the project.

The planning commission listed concerns about hours of operation, noise, vehicle sales 50% of gross income, exhaust in the building and fumes outside, restrict work to inside and emergency action plan for leaks.

The issues were addressed during the hearing through questioning and testimony.

Attorney Timothy McManus said the two lots are in a General Commercial district.

Senior Project Manager Darren Heckman, of Keystone Engineering Consulting Services, gave testimony that the lots are not identified as non-commercial. The plan would be to merge the lots and lease to Pocono ATR, a truck repair shop.

The right of way, stormwater management, lights and noise were addressed. The proposal would include a fence around the entire facility with elevated plantings to buffer the noise.

The hearing closed after almost four hours of testimony. The township has 45 days to consider all input and make a decision.
