Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 7

The Palmerton boys and girls basketball teams each picked up wins on Thursday.

Both Bomber squads defeated Pen Argyl in Colonial League action.

Other winners included the Marian boys and Northwestern girls.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Nativity

A big overall game from Jesse Rodino helped Marian hold off Nativity for a 59-50 Schuylkill League victory.

Rodino ended with 15 points, 17 rebounds, five steals and a pair of assists.

Julius Currie scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the first half as the Colts built a 17-point advantage.

Rodino tallied seven of his points in the final frame as the Hilltoppers tried to rally back for the win.

Marian also received nine points from both Jacob Miller and James Rodino, while Noah Dolbin topped Nativity with 16.

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Palmerton outscored Pen Argyl in every quarter en route to a 55-23 Colonial League victory.

After gaining a 10-4 first-quarter lead, Matt Machalik and Jacob Grammes combined for 28 of the Bombers’ 36 points in the middle frames to take a commanding 29-point advantage.

Machalik finished with a game-high 17 points, while Grammes ended with 13. The winners, who improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the league, also received 10 from Brayden Hosier.

For the Green Knights, Mason Soos tallied a team-high nine points.

Catasauqua-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh’s Connor Simms scored a game-high 25 points, but it wasn’t enough as Catasauqua recorded a 68-52 Colonial League victory.

Reece Lopez hit for 11 first-half points as the Rough Riders gained a 15-point halftime lead.

Frankie Pujoles ended with a team-high 20 points for Catty, now 1-1, while Lopez added 17.

The Bulldogs (1-3; 0-2) also received 14 points from Nick Buskirk.

Weatherly-Shenandoah Vy.

Shenandoah Valley held off Weatherly, 67-57, in Schuylkill League action despite a game-high 23 points from the Wreckers’ Ian McKeegan.

Austyn Lamonica netted 11 points in the opening quarter for Weatherly, which trailed by just two after the first eight minutes.

The Devils’ John Silverstre posted 12 of his 16 points in the middle frames to help his team expand the lead to 12.

Brayden Maksimik also scored 16 points for the winners, now 1-3, while Lamonica ended with 14 for Weatherly (0-3).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

Sydney Frantz scored a team-high 16 points to lead Palmerton to a 51-38 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Frantz netted 10 of her points in the first half as the Blue Bombers (3-0; 2-0) opened up a 12-point halftime advantage.

Palmerton’s Hannah Barry tallied eight of her 12 points in the final frame, including a 6-of-6 effort at the foul line, to help her team maintain the lead.

The Knights received 18 points from Elliana Wallbillich.

PEN ARGYL

Northwestern cruised to a 55-26 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Cara Thomas scored 10 of her 15 points in the opening quarter as the Tigers (2-1; 1-1) jumped out to a nine-point lead.

The advantage swelled to 15 by halftime as Brook Balliet tallied seven of her game-high 17 points in the second frame.

The Spartans received nine points from Tesse Seagraves.

Catasqauqua used a strong second half to rally for a 48-45 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Hailey Jenkins scored 17 of her game-high 24 points over the final two quarters to help the Rough Riders erase a 10-point halftime deficit.

The Bulldogs had built a 24-14 advantage behind eight points from Dakota Barthold before Catty started its comeback.

Barthold finished with a team-high 16 points, while Aubrey Pollard added 13. Nolehi, now 1-2, also received 10 points from Kaitlyn Barthold.

Chase McArdle led the Panthers with a game-high 11 points.

Tyler Hall, Brody Vermillion, and Michael Demyanovich all added seven points for PV.

BOYS 7TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Panther Valley

Corrigan Crampsie scored 19 points to lead Panther Valley to a 42-26 win over Tamaqua.

PV also received 14 points from Carson Jones.

For the Blue Raiders, Voecle and Diaz both finished with nine points.

GIRLS 8TH GRADE

Panther Valley-Tamaqua

Tamaqua cruised to a 41-14 victory over Panther Valley.

The Blue Raiders’ Millie Black scored a game-high 17 points, while N. Knitter ended with nine.

Kathryn Breslin had a team-high five points for the Panthers.

GIRLS 7TH GRADE

Panther Valley-Tamaqua

Panther Valley defeated Tamaqua, 16-11.

Kathryn Breslin led the Panthers with 11 points, while Emily Howard added five.

Madeline Trigone paced the Blue Raiders with six points.
