A blighted property in the village of Snyders will soon belong to West Penn Township.
Once the 2056 W. Penn Pike (Route 309) property is turned over, the township plans to demolish it.
“This is the property we had been seeking for quite some time,” township Solicitor Paul Datte said during Monday evening’s board of supervisors meeting.
According to Datte, Wells Fargo Bank acquired the property as part of a mortgage foreclosure.
“They’re interested in transferring the property to the township,” Datte said.
Many know the site as the “Galloway” property, he noted. It had a fire years ago. The township had been interested in obtaining the property for demolition for more than a dozen years, Datte said.
Wells Fargo Bank took ownership in October, according to Schuylkill County property records, and intends to donate the property to the township.
Bank and township officials plan to discuss the transfer this week, Datte said.
There’s also a good chance, he said, that the township will be able to obtain a demolition grant from Schuylkill County.
The township would then own the vacant lot.
“I would recommend that we do it. It’s our best chance to get our hands on this property,” Datte said.
The township will do its own title search to make sure no delinquent liens or taxes are attached to the property. Datte estimated that the search will cost $150.
The board authorized Datte to pursue discussions with the bank.
