Inmate charged with having a ‘shank’

An inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution at Schuylkill has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of possession of a weapon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

According to U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that on July 11, 2023, Tyrell Lockhart, 26. was found in possession of a homemade knife, commonly referred to as a “shank.”

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Special Investigative Services of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luisa Honora Berti is prosecuting the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is up to five years in jail.
