Tamaqua school board

Tamaqua Area School District conducted the following business last week:

• Approved the first reading of the policy on Naloxone, the opioid reversal drug. The change would allow the drug to be available in all schools.

• Approved the winter formal at Capriotti’s in McAdoo on Nov. 25.

• Approved out-of-state trips for AP Social Studies to New York City and Raider Marching Band to Washington, D.C., both in April.

• Appointed John Hurst, business administrator at Mahanoy Area School District as the district’s second alternative on the Act 32 Tax Collection Commission. The primary delegate remains Business Manager Connie Ligenza Ligenza and first alternate is Larry Wittig.

• The board also hired two special education teachers, Ashlyn Herring of Tamaqua, and Jordan Abdo of Pottsville, both at a salary of $43,631.

Other hires included Maryanne Delay and LaToya Randolph both of Tamaqua, as part-time paraprofessionals at $12 an hour; and Jennifer Hermany, LPN, Hazleton, as a part-time health room assistant at $21.97 an hour.

• The board also accepted the resignation of Lauren Barr, a Tamaqua Elementary emotional support teacher, and granted maternity leave to Briona Spotts beginning about March 11, and Ashley Brennan, beginning about Jan. 3.

• For tax collection, the board appointed Portnoff Law Associates as the delinquent real estate tax collector for the unpaid taxes for 2025 collection cycle, and Berkheimer Inc. as the delinquent per capita and assessed occupation tax collector, also for 2025 collection cycle.
