A woman from New Jersey was struck and killed when she ran in front of a vehicle that was traveling north on Interstate 380 in Coolbaugh Township on Sunday at 11 p.m.
Chantalle Cecconi, 27, of Hackettstown, was pronounced dead at the Geisinger Community Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, according to state police at the Stroudsburg barracks.
Police said she was transported there by personnel from the Pocono Mountain Regional Emergency Medical Services after the incident.
They said the tragedy happened when a 21-year-old Buffalo, New York, man was driving a 2012 Subaru Outback near mile marker 6.
Officers said the driver observed a disabled vehicle on the eastern shoulder of the interstate and began maneuvering the Outback into the left lane of travel. They said as the vehicle approached the disabled vehicle, he tried to move further onto the western shoulder to avoid a collision when Cecconi abruptly ran in front of the car and was struck.
The driver was not injured. The car was towed from the scene, police said.
In addition to the EMS service, police were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Pocono Summit and Coolbaugh Township fire companies.
