Bowmanstown urges to have sump pumps inspected

The clock is ticking for Bowmanstown residents to get their sump pumps inspected.

It was announced at last week’s borough council meeting that there were still 20 sump pump inspections not completed in the borough.

Councilman Rob Moyer said he couldn’t understand why residents wouldn’t comply.

Mayor Zach Snyder asked if anyone has attempted to contact the people who haven’t had their sump pumps inspected.

Moyer said he thinks the borough should always do its due diligence.

Councilman Darren Thomas bristled at that notion.

“If we’ve sent two letters, I think we’ve done our due diligence,” Thomas said. “It’s been nine months.”

Recording device

Council also discussed whether or not it should purchase a new recording device.

Moyer said that from what he’s found, broadcasting is probably more than what council plans to do.

“I would suggest we find a new recording system,” Moyer said.

Council President Pam Leiby agreed.

“I think we should do something,” Leiby said.

Moyer added that there are multiple options.

Councilwoman Kara Scott said she thinks council should table the matter and get more information.

Moyer said the borough could livestream, but either way, “I need to have a sense of what we need to do.”

Thomas suggested digital recording, to which both Councilman Rob Sikorsky and Leiby agreed.

Snyder said he’s not opposed to digital recording.
