The Slatington council approved entering into a licensing agreement with St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church for use of the church parking lot by businesses on weekdays during a recent council meeting.
Only business owners and their staff will be permitted to park in the church parking lot.
The lot will be open to them from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. This will free up more parking for patrons elsewhere.
“The church is doing us a huge favor,” said council member Bryon Reed.
The parking lot will be patrolled to make sure only permitted vehicles are parked in the lot. Council is considering a sticker for the vehicles that would be allowed to park in the lot.
Council also approved the following items:
• To transfer $6,599 from liquid fuels account to the fund balance for the E. Franklin Street Community Development Block Grant project. The bid amount for the project was $101,688. The CDBG grant was $95,069. The approval is contingent on approval from PennDOT to allow them to use funds from the liquid fuels account.
• Making the final payment of $24,507.54 to Bruce George Paving and Excavating Inc. for its work on the Slate Heritage Trail project.
• Accepting a quote from Parkson for a brush subassembly and screen basket in the amount of $11,331 with 10% subtracted if it is purchased before Thanksgiving. It will be billed in 2024.
• To authorize the borough manager to reinvest two certificates of deposit from the sewer fund. Both CD’s are $250,000 each. The council also authorized him to reinvest two CD’s from the water fund. One of these CD’s is $250,000 and the other $60,000. Current CD rates are in the 5% interest range.
• To hold two electronic recycling events in 2024 on April 13 and Nov. 9.
• To accept a quote from BEI Electrical for water tank lighting in the amount of $4,100.
