Pack the Pickup

The Gilbert American Legion will have two events on Saturday. It is the monthly Post clean-up day and it is the day of Operation Touch of Home’s Pack the Pickup. Activities begin at 9 a.m.

Pizza pick-up

Pizza ordered from McMichaels UMC need to be picked up Saturday at the church before 11 a.m.

PVHS show

The Pleasant Valley High School will present its fall drama at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Craft fair & bake sale

The Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company Auxiliary is having a craft fair and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday.

There will be crafts, including hand-knit sweaters, crocheted items, natural soaps, gifts for the home, Liztech Pins and many other items. Pictures taken with Santa will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will also be the “Assorted Bricks” quilt raffle drawing, bake sale, and lunch will be served.

The firehouse is located on Rt. 115 across from Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg.

A.A. meeting

McMichaels UMC’s Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held Wednesdays at noon and Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.

All needing help with alcohol addiction are welcome to come at no cost. All meetings are confidential.

Legion bingo

The West End American Legion Post 927 is hosting its weekly Monday Night Bingo at the Gilbert Legion home, with cards sales beginning at 6:30 p.m. and playing time beginning at 7 p.m.

Filling orders

Folks who ordered turkey filling and gravy from the Layman’s Fellowship at St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown are reminded items need to be picked up Tuesday 1 to 3 p.m.

Senior Luncheon

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host its monthly Senior luncheon at 1 p.m. Monday.

Prayer Shawl meets

The Prayer Shawl group at Effort UMC will gather again at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday. Fellow “needle pliers” are welcome.

Angel trees appear

Various West End churches will be setting up their respective Angel Tree soon. The trees will be adorned by children’s names and the gift(s) the child would like to receive for Christmas.

T-day needs

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is accepting donations of turkeys and turkey breasts, canned yams, cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing, cornbread mix, French’s fried onions, pancake mix and syrup for families in need.

Shelf stable donations can be dropped off 24 hours a day in the teal and yellow covered bin outside the food pantry.

Perishable donations can be brought to the pantry during office hours, with other days and times available by appointment.

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is asking for donations for the holidays including gravy, canned vegetables, cake mixes, canned frosting, cranberry sauce, instant potatoes, turkeys, hams, stuffing mix, pie crust, pie fillings, etc.

It focuses on helping to feed families having need, that are not eligible for local, county or state programs.

The program serves the communities of Albrightsville, Blakeslee, Brodheadsville, Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Saylorsburg and Sciota on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to noon.

Advent preparing

Effort UMC will decorate the church for Advent and Christmas on Nov. 25.

Sensory Santa

Individuals with diverse abilities and their families are invited to meet Santa at Chestnuthill Park in a sensory-friendly environment. This Santa meet and greet will avoid bright lights and loud music. There will be complimentary cookies, cocoa, and gifts.

Toys for Tots

Sign-ups for Toys for Tots will be received at the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network through Nov. 30.

New Year’s dinner

A pork and sauerkraut dinner will be sponsored by the Western Pocono Lions Club from noon to 3 p.m., Jan. 1, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Rt. 209, Brodheadsville. Dinner includes pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, roll and various desserts.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 570-801-7509 or at the door that day. Take-outs are also available.
