Palmerton looks to fill open seat on council tonight

Palmerton hopes to round out its field of councilors as part of its meeting this evening.

Borough council will meet at 7 o’clock, at which time it’s expected to name a new council person.

Contacted Wednesday afternoon, borough Manager Autumn Canfield said three candidates have applied for the open seat on council.

Last month, council on a 5-0 vote accepted the resignation of Councilman Cory Kepner.

Afterward, council agreed to accept letters of intent to fill the vacancy until Nov. 6.

Council said at that time it plans to take action to appoint a new council member at its Nov. 16 meeting.

After last month’s meeting, Canfield said Kepner, who was not at the meeting, resigned due to “personal reasons.”

Kepner had served on council since January 2022, when he was sworn in for a four-year term.
