Lansford residents will again see no tax increase in 2024, as borough council approved a tentative budget for 2024 Wednesday night.
The $1.95 million spending plan calls for $263,575 for general government, which includes salaries for mayor, council, tax collector, secretaries; professional services, other legal fees and general expenses.
The borough also anticipates spending $758,375 on police, which includes salary for officers and a new police chief, a position which remains vacant this year.
Council allocated $80,000 for the chief’s salary in the tentative budget. Another round of interviews for the chief’s position will occur on Nov. 20 and a new chief could be named this year.
The budget also looks at $15,475 for buildings, $15,050 for fire, $41,200 for code enforcement, $13,100 for zoning, and $27,075 for other public safety, including crossing guards and 911 service.
Public works, which includes salaries, equipment and tools, fuel, repairs, costs such as heat, electric and other utilities for the borough garage and a major equipment purchase, comes in $502,425.
The borough was eying a used street sweeper this year at $75,000, but failed to find one and increased the spending limit $100,000. This is included in the public works spending.
Other spending includes municipal administration office, $17,125; debt service, $3,850; and grant expenditures of $237,567, which includes funding for the new borough garage and Brimble’s wall.
Revenues include taxes, $1,303,470; licenses and permits, $18,000; fines and profits, $20,750; interest, rents and royalty, $35,350; intergovernmental revenues, which includes grants, $314,417; charges for services, $225,550; public safety/crossing guards, $8,975; copy charge, $75, and other sources, $27,225.
