Want to win an electric bike, a pizza oven or even $500 in cash?
The St. Jerome Regional School will hold its annual Basket Bonanza Friday and Saturday, and give folks the chance to try their luck at these and other prizes.
“It’s a really huge event,” said Karen Weicker, coordinator of fundraising for the Home and School Association. “Last year we had more than 350 baskets.”
All proceeds benefit the Hometown school.
The basket bonanza will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. from the Lakeside Ballroom in Barnesville. Prizes will be called starting at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Basket prizes have a value between $25 and $100, while premium prizes are worth more than $250. The intermediate prizes fall in the middle.
“The baskets have things like toys, electric toothbrushes - just a little bit of everything for everybody,” Weicker said.
There’s even a table full of designer purses that people can win.
“We have a Flyers basket, grills - we are very lucky that people support the school. Even the teachers went together to donate money for a $500 cash prize,” Weicker said.
There will be a 50/50 drawing, and homemade food, desserts and candy will be available for purchase.
“We will have turkey and beef, pierogies, haluski, halpuki, something called ‘Sunday chicken,’ and of course, hot dogs because hot dogs are a staple for children,” Weicker said. “Everybody works hard on this.”
Weicker said current and former students will volunteer, with some of them “running” prizes to winners. School parents and teachers will be on hand, too.
“We are lucky to have a lot of people who are very good. We are a big family,” she said.
Winners who are not present for the calling will be contacted to pick up their prizes.
