MC Seniors

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, offers its facility in the church hall for area seniors to come for activity, socialization and a lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays.

There are always two choices for lunch.

Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 927 will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the Legion home in Gilbert.

Home visitation

The Western Pocono Women’s Club members are headed to Getz Personal Care Home tomorrow to have a fun visit with the residents.

Eldred vacancies

Eldred Township is looking for residents interested in filling various committee vacancies. Interested parties, are asked to respond with a letter of interest to the Secretary Ann Velopolcek, by post, drop off or email at a.velopolcek@eldredtwp.org.

Successful candidates will be appointed at the Jan. 24 organizational meeting.

The following committees have available vacancies: Planning Commission, 2 vacancies, term/4 years; Parks and Recreation Committee, 1 vacancy, term/1 year

Pizza deadline

McMichaels UMC is holding a pizza sale. Orders are due with Martha Stout at 570-992-6742 on or before tomorrow.

Pick-up is at the church on Nov. 18. The pizzas are all 12-inch, cheese only.

SFRC open

The Supplemental Food Resource Center of Effort Methodist Church will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

QofP Mission Meal

The next West End Missions meal at Our Lady Queen of Peace will be served at 4:30 p.m., tomorrow.

Polk meeting

Polk Township Supervisors will meet for a general meeting at 8 a.m., Thursday, at the municipal building in Kresgeville.

McMichaels UMC

A donation only breakfast will be served from 8 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at McMichaels UMC.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

There will be music provided by a band led by Dennis Maida.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the church family will sell a variety of homemade soups in quarts and pints.

The church offers a Bible study via Zoom from 7 to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Call Pastor Ed at 610-597-1030 for more information.

And the church hosts A.A. at the church every Wednesday at noon and on Saturday evening at 6:30. If you or someone you know needs assistance in conquering this addiction, join the class. All are welcome at no cost and all meetings are confidential.

Veterans Day events

• The American Legion, Post 927, Gilbert, will host a public Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday at the Post home on Rt. 209.

• Ross Township Historical Society museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

That time will be the same for every second Saturday of each month thereafter.

This Saturday the Society is showcasing uniforms from the First and Second World War along with a uniform from the Korean War and associated military related items.

New donations have arrived, with a few specific to the military. The community is invited to honor those who have served.

There is no charge for admission and all are welcome. The museum is located at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. Look for the large “Open” flag. For more information contact judyj@ptd.net. and/or visit the website rosshistoricalsociety.com

• Polk Township Memorial will be the place for an 11:30 prayer service on Veterans Day. If it is rainy the service will be held at Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church across Rt. 209.

VALOR needs

With Thanksgiving coming, VALOR still has some needs for its dinner. Needed by Friday are: turkeys or turkey breasts (frozen), bacon, cake mix, pie filling, cake frosting, brown rice, canned turkey gravy, and canned corn, as well as banana boxes.

Item can brought to 1130 Scenic Drive, Kunkletown 18058, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Orphan Outreach

The Orphan Outreach Ministry Tricky Tray at Our Lady Queen of Peace will take place Saturday, with doors opening at 9 a.m. and the drawing beginning at 12:30 p.m.

There is a cost to participate.

Food and beverages will be for sale. There are over 250 gift baskets and gift certificates.

Patriots Ball

VALOR will host its annual Patriots Ball from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Stroudsmoor Country Inn, Stroudsburg. The public and veterans are invited. Formal attire is required.

AL Riders

The American Legion Riders Post 927 will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Post home on Rt. 209.

T’day filling order

The Layman’s Fellowship of St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is closing its orders for turkey filling and gravy on Sunday. Pick-up is Nov. 21.

Community supper

Sunday, at 3 p.m., Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will again host a Community Sunday Supper.

KoC Ball

The Knights of Columbus Assembly 980 is hosting its Patriotic Ball at Peppe’s Bistro Sunday, beginning at 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the 980 scholarship.

Effort Women

The Women’s Group of Effort is meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, at Effort UMC.

The membership is reviewing its 2024 schedule and leadership as it supports the church and various mission projects.

OTOH meets

Operation: Touch of Home will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

Donation needs

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is asking for donations of items for the holidays including gravy, canned vegetables, cake mixes, canned frosting, cranberry sauce, instant potatoes, turkeys, hams, stuffing mix, pie crust, pie fillings, etc.

It focuses on helping to feed families having need, that are not eligible for local, county or state programs.

The program serves the communities of Albrightsville, Blakeslee, Brodheadsville, Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Saylorsburg, and Sciota on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, 10 a.m. to noon.

It serves families having need, that are not eligible for local, county or state programs.

The next regular SFRC distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 11.

Free supper

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting its free community drive-in supper at 5 p.m. next Wednesday.

T’day dinners

• Effort UMC is offering free Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings on Thanksgiving Day, as prepared by Pastor Ken and helpers. The dinner is open to the community and will be held starting at 2 p.m. Church family members interested in volunteering to prep and serve, is asked to contact Pastor Ken at: hishands@ptd.net

Anyone wishing to attend the dinner, should so indicate on the sign-up sheet on the church’s Welcome Center.

• McMichaels UMC is offering a free Thanksgiving Day dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

The church invites anyone in the community that would like to share in a special day meal and fellowship. Reservations are required. Call 610-597-1030 to reserve said meals.

Serving begins at 2 p.m. There will be no take-out meals.

The church also invites folks to join a Thursday night Bible study on Zoom every Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.

Soup sale

Effort UMC’s soup sale continues through Nov. 15. Being offered are Roasted Harvest Vegetable and Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle.

Pick-up time is after each worship service Nov. 19.

An order form is availble at the church’s Welcome Center.
