2 incumbents, 2 newcomers win in Summit Hill

Seven people vied for four, four-year spots and one, two-year seat on Summit Hill Borough Council in Tuesday’s General Election.

Top vote-getters for the four-year slots were Republican Marlene Basiago with 648 votes; and Democrats Karen Ruzicka, an incumbent, with 571 votes, Dave Wargo, also an incumbent, with 489 votes, and Lacey Gonzalez with 460, according to unofficial tallies.

Republican Alan Kruslicky, an incumbent, received 423 votes; Michael Kokinda II, also a Republican who currently serves as council president, received 422 votes, and Republican Sandra L. Dellicker garnered 311 votes.

Basiago was also the apparent winner for the two-year seat on council over Kokinda, 585 to 331.

Basiago, who owned and operated Helping Hand Clinic for 24 years, said she wanted to be a voice of change and bring accountability to with police and properties and pride back into the community, while Ruzicka, a business owner who has served on council for eight years, said she wants to implement more programs, continue securing grants and keep the budget in check.

Wargo, who has served on council for 10 years, wants to continue working to help community and solve problems, and Gonzalez, an associate professor at Lehigh Carbon Community College, operates a tax practice in the borough and wants to bring fiscal responsibility and foster collaboration with neighboring communities.
