Flying club having Halloween event
The Tuscarora R/C Flying Club is holding a “Halloween Midnight Show” beginning at 4 p.m. Oct. 29 at 70 Foothill St., Barnesville.
The non-profit club is partnering with the Friends of Tuscarora and Locust Lake State Parks for the special event, which features remote-controlled vehicles flying through the air, a trunk or treat for children and vendors.
“We thought it might be good for us to work together. The Tuscarora R/C Flying Club is hosting the event and they’ve done night flies before where they fly with the lights on their planes,” said Jennifer Holman, a Friends board member.
She noted that the club’s field is on Tuscarora State Park property; the local park is one of only six in Pennsylvania with a flying field.
In its advertisement for the event, the club notes that flying is from 4-8 p.m., or “not quite midnight but close enough.”
Costumes are encouraged and treats will be given out beginning at 4 p.m. The clubs are looking for trunk or treat participants.
Admission and parking is free but donations collected at the event will benefit another thing with wings - honeybees.
Holman said the Friends’ group is raising money for a Spring Apiary Program with hopes of getting an observational hive with clear glass so viewers can learn about bees.
Holman noted that J & L Shafer Farms, Rush Township, donated pumpkins to decorate and Bowers Donuts will give away munchkin doughnuts. For His Kingdom Coffee will have coffee and hot chocolate for purchase.
The groups are also looking for a food truck.
Holman said an “Owl Prowl” will likely be held at the conclusion of the event for those who wish to call owls.
