Country, tributes top entertainment schedule

Country star Clint Black leads the parade of entertainment hitting Carbon County, Tamaqua and Monroe County’s West End over the next few weeks.

The award-winning singer-songwriter, also an actor and producer, will return to Penn’s Peak. The latter will also host acts such as rocker Lita Ford and rock band 38 Special, as well as a slew of tribute shows.

Mauch Chunk Opera House will also host its share of musical tributes, along with a burlesque show and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams Halloween Ball.

Meanwhile, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater’s season nears its conclusion with the themed weekends Family Nightmare Party and Universal Monster Mash VII. A screening of 1987’s “The Lost Boys” will close out the season.

• Floyd Nation, 8 p.m. Oct. 20. The act performs the music of English rock band Pink Floyd. Floyd Nation features, among others, Will Kaiser, Brendon McDonnell and Robert Harris.

• Lita Ford with Nelson, 8 p.m. Oct. 21. Born in Los Angeles, Ford was a founding member of 1970s female rock band The Runaways. The group, which released four studio albums, scored a signature hit with “Cherry Bomb.” Ford, with eight studio albums to her credit, scored solo hits such as “Kiss Me Deadly,” “Close My Eyes Forever” and “Shot of Poison.” Nelson, featuring the late Rick Nelson’s twin sons Gunnar and Matthew, will also perform.

• The Wood Brothers. 7 p.m. Oct. 22. Oliver and Chris Wood, hailing from Boulder, Colorado, released their roots band’s debut studio album “Ways Not To Lose” in 2006. The Wood Brothers released its ninth studio album, “Heart is the Hero,” earlier this year.

• Daytime Shows. The schedule of shows, scheduled for 1 p.m., is as follows: 1981: The Concert, Oct. 24, a recreation of Simon & Garfunkel’s 1981 Concert in Central Park; The Jersey Beach Boys, Oct. 25, tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, along with The Beach Boys; River of Dreams: A Tribute to Billy Joel, Oct. 31.; and Barbra and Frank: The Concert That Never Was, Nov. 1, tribute to Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra.

• Let’s Sing Taylor: A Live Band Experience, 8 p.m. Oct. 27. The band performs the music of singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.

• Live Wire, 8 p.m. Oct. 28. The tribute act performs the music of Australian hard-rock band AC/DC. Live Wire, which takes its name from AC/DC’s 1975 track of the same name, features, among others, Francis Crouse, Mike Hughes and Bill Vocia.

• Lettuce, 8 p.m. Nov. 2. Originating in 1992 in Boston, the funk band has released eight studio albums to date, including its debut, 2002’s “Outta Here” and most recent set, 2022’s “Unify.” Lettuce features, among others, Adam Smirnoff, Nigel Hall and Adam Deitch.

• 38 Special, 8 p.m. Nov. 3. Formed in Jacksonville, Florida, the rock band, featuring founding member Don Barnes, has released a dozen studio albums. The band’s biggest hits include “Hold on Loosely,” “Caught Up in You” and “Second Chance.”

• Clint Black, 8 p.m. Nov. 4. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, Black released debut album “Killin’ Time” in 1989 and his most recent set, “Out of Sane,” in 2020. The singer’s 13 No. 1 country-radio hits includes “A Better Man,“ “When My Ship Comes In” and “Nothin’ But the Taillights.” In 2020, Black and wife Lisa competed as the Snow Owls on Fox’s “The Masked Singer.”

• Splintered Sunlight, 8 p.m. Oct. 20. The tribute act, which features founding member Butch Sochorow, performs the music of rock band Grateful Dead.

• The Glimmer Twins, 8 p.m. Oct. 21. The band performs the music of English rock band The Rolling Stones. The Glimmer Twins features, among others, Keith Call and Bernie Bollendorf.

• Shane McGeehan Band, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26. McGeehan, known for his work with Pennsylvania bluegrass band Serene Green, released his first solo project, “Your Love For Me is Gold,” in late 2022.

• Peek-a-Boo Revue, 8 p.m. Oct. 27. The burlesque show will feature, among others, Count Scotchula and Calamity Chang.

• Slambovian Circus of Dreams Halloween Ball, 8 p.m. Oct. 28. The band, which performs music sometimes classified as “punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd,” will presents its pre-Halloween mischief show. Slambovian Circus of Dreams features, among others, Joziah Longo, Sharkey McEwan and Tink Lloyd.

• Willy Porter, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29. Born in Mequon, Wisconsin, the rock singer-songwriter released his first full-length independent album, “The Trees Have Soul,“ in 1990. He released his latest album “The Ravine” earlier this year.

• Motor City Revue, 8 p.m. Nov. 3. The band performs popular and rare Motown and Stax hits, plus rock and soul classics.

• Back in Black, 8 p.m. Nov. 4. The act performs the music of Australian hard-rock band AC/DC, takes its name from the latter’s blockbuster 1980 studio album of the same name.

• Gallery Opening with Anna Ringlaben, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2. Ringlaben, a Tamaqua Area High School senior and self-taught artist, has enjoyed painting and drawing since she was a young child. She likes to experiment with different media and make art focused on abstract concepts. Ringlaben hopes to attend college and become a well-known artist and illustrator. The exhibit will remain on display through Nov. 22.

• Family Nightmare Party, Oct. 20 and 21. The 35 mm film lineup consists of the stop-motion animated films “Mad Monster Party?” (1967), “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993) and “Coraline” (2009). The event will also feature a costume contest. Gates open at 5 p.m. for a Family Trunk or Treat. Showtime at sundown.

• Universal Monster Mash VII, Oct. 27 and 28. The 35 mm six-film lineup includes, among others, 1933’s “The Invisible Man,” 1954’s “Creature From the Black Lagoon” and 1943’s “The Mad Ghoul.” The event will also include a Trunk or Treat, among other attractions. General Gates at 6 p.m. each night. Showtime at Sundown.

• “The Lost Boys,” Oct. 29. Exhumed Films and the theater will present a 35 mm screening of Joel Schumacher’s 1987 vampire film “The Lost Boys.” Saxophonist Tim Cappello, who performed in the film, will appear and play near the bonfire. This event marks the end of the theater’s season. Gates open at 6 p.m. Showtime at sundown.

• Halloween Party Featuring Tantric, 6 p.m. Oct. 22. The event will include costume contests and music from post-grunge band Tantric. The group, formed in 1999 and hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, features Hugo Ferreira - the only remaining original member - along with Chris Loree, Eric Warner and Jon Loree. Tantric, which has released eight studio albums to date, scored hits such as “Breakdown,” “Hey Now” and “Down and Out.”
