Tamaqua’s boys and girls wrapped up a stellar Schuylkill League cross country season in Division 1 Wednesday, while Marian’s boys completed a dominant run in Division 2.

Elsewhere, the Lehighton boys soccer team punched its ticket to the district playoffs with a win.

Tamaqua-Weatherly-

N. Schuylkill at Shenandoah

With a sweep in a Schuylkill League meet at Shenandoah Valley, the Tamaqua boys and girls clinched Division I titles.

The Tamaqua girls finished with a perfect record at 18-0 overall, while the girls ended at 17-1.

Levi Kunkel and Bailey Pliska both crossed the finish line first in each of their respective meets for the Blue Raiders.

Weatherly’s Carlos Otero and Sebastian Williams, along with the Blue Raiders’ Stephen Kieffer, all scored top-five finishes, ending up in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Isabella Jones and Samantha Plasha posted second and third place finishes for the Tamaqua girls, while Kendall Gerhart stepped off the soccer field for a day to lead her team with a 13th-place finish for the Wreckers.

Minersville at Mahanoy

Marian’s boys closed out a remarkable regular season by clinching the Schuylkill League Division 2 title.

The Colts went 2-1 in the meet as the team finished the year with a division record of 13-1. Albin Petschauer placed first with a time of 18:11, while teammate Alex Porambo finished fourth.

In the girls meet, the Fillies also went 2-1 and concluded the season with a record of 12-2. Emma Ashfield paced the team with a seventh-place finish.

Aubrey Bonner paced the Jim Thorpe girls with a third-place result, while Bowden Chicarelli finished ninth for the Olympians in the boys meet.

Lehighton-Pottsville- Tri-Valley at Gillingham

Elijah Pagotto and Owen Serfass crossed the finish line in the top two spots in a Schuylkill League meet at Gillingham Charter.

That performance highlighted a 3-0 day for the Indians in the boys’ meet, while the Lehighton girls went 1-1.

Pagotto grabbed top honors for the Indians in a time of 18:11, while Serfass was only four seconds behind in second place.

Julia Smith placed eighth in the girls meet for the Tribe.

Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy,

Pleasant Valley and Stroudsburg battled to a 0-0 tie in the regular season finale in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Sadie Rizzo made seven saves for the Bears (7-10-1), including two in the first overtime and one in the second. Pleasant Valley played down a player the entire second half. But the defense of Emma Meyers, Bri Palmeri and Sysali Banks along with Rizzo in net all came up big.

The Mounties concluded the regular season at 7-10-1.

Fleetwood-Northwestern

Katie Brensinger’s goal was all Northwestern needed to secure a 1-0 non-league victory over visiting Fleetwood.

Halfway through the second half, Paige Bissel set up Brensinger with what turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Tigers (17-1 overall).

Olivia Reinhart posted six saves to earn another shutout.

Northern Lehigh-Salisbury

Katelynn Barthold tallied three goals, and Victoria Hanna and Mikayla Gordon each recorded a pair to help Northern Lehigh rout Salisbury, 9-1, in Colonial League play.

With its third straight victory, Northern Lehigh raised its record to 12-5 overall.

Salisbury, which dropped its third straight, fell to 1-14-1.

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Lehighton blanked Tamaqua 2-0 in a Schuylkill League contest that was the regular season finale for both teams.

With the win, the Indians secured a position in the district playoffs.

Konnor Nalesnik and Jaxon Strauss scored goals for the Tribe (9-8-1), while Bryce Miller netted 18 saves.

Kevin Bazan made five saves for the Blue Raiders (6-12).

Marian-Lourdes

Lourdes routed Marian, 9-3, in Schuylkill League play.

Hobi Forti had three goals, Josh Miller added a pair, and Bennett Williams and Joe Ryan each had a goal for Lourdes.

Nathaniel Rosario, Mergim Bushati, and Nuredin Gjoca each registered a goal for Marian, which slipped to 2-14 on the season.

Northern Lehigh ended its regular season with a 5-1 victory over Williams Valley in a non-league contest.

Logan Berfield had a pair of goals while Michael Wilk, Chayce LoPinto, and Zaid Salih also scored for the Bulldogs. James Stock had eight saves.

With the win, Northern Lehigh upped its record to 6-11-1, while Williams Valley fell to 7-10.

Sch. Haven-Weatherly

Schuylkill Haven blanked Weatherly for a 6-0 Schuylkill League win.

Michael Davies finished with eight saves for the Wreckers, who dropped to 0-14 overall and 0-11 in the league.

FIELD HOCKEY

Molly McFetridge’s two goals sparked Whitehall to a 4-0 non-conference win over visiting Northern Lehigh.

Lydia Keppel and Audra Sommer also scored for the Zephyrs (8-6-2 overall), while Kerigan Dreisbach had two assists.

Northern Lehigh falls to 1-16 on the season.

VOLLEYBALL

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Jim Thorpe swept Tamaqua, 25-9, 25-11, 25-12, in Schuylkill League action.

JaeLynn Browdy had a big night for the Olympians (14-3 overall; 11-3 SL) with 15 kills, six service points, five digs and two aces.

Maggy Hallihan dished out 33 assists and five kills, while Brooke Mitzen (10 kills, four digs) and Brianna Snisky (eight kills, two blocks) also contributed to the balanced attack.

Lacey Beers had nine digs for the Blue Raiders (4-18; 0-14), while Leah Black had six digs.

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Northwestern traveled back home with a 25-8, 25-14, 25-10 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Kylie Nagle paced the Tigers (13-7 overall; 9-2 CL) with nine digs and nine aces. Norah Silfies added seven kills and two aces. and Shannon Green had 24 assists, seven digs and two aces.
