An East Penn Township man jailed for taking a firearm also faces drug and paraphernalia charges after a search at the Carbon County prison, according to court papers.
Eugene P. Hrebin Jr. was arraigned Sunday on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm prohibited, and jailed on $10,000 bail.
Upon processing at the prison, a search turned up a plastic bag with suspected methamphetamine inside his sock, resulting in additional charges of contraband/controlled substances, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hrebin was also arraigned on the additional charges and bail set at $2,000.
According to court papers, state police received a report of a stolen firearm Saturday. Allison Rosene told police she had a falling out with Hrebin on Friday.
She and Hrebin fought over her ending the relationship in Lehigh Township, Northampton County, and the altercation was reported to the police.
Rosene went to the East Penn Township home where she had been living with Hrebin, and found that her Taurus model 1911 45ACP handgun was missing. She texted Hrebin, who confirmed he had taken it, court papers aid.
State police took Hrebin into custody in Jackson Township, Monroe County, on Saturday, and Hrebin told police he took the gun to a friend’s house for safe keeping, court papers said.
Police then recovered the gun from a home in Lehigh Township, Northampton County.
Hrebin was not permitted to possess a firearm due to being a fugitive from justice, police reported. He was wanted for a driving under the influence charge from state police in Stroudsburg and also had a bench warrant for public drunkenness citation, court papers said.
