A structure fire was reported at the George Dillard Manor, 425 Kuntz St., Slatington, Monday morning, and a second alarm was sounded soon after at 11:30 a.m. Reports were that it was an electrical fire.
Residents from the five-story, 75-unit facility were evacuated to St. John’s UCC, located across the street, for temporary shelter. Residents returned later in the day.
Emergency response teams from Lehigh County stations responded to the call.
Additional assistance came from Carbon and Northampton counties.
Slatington Fire Company Chief Ronald Hausman told Slatington Borough Council Monday night about the fire, and thanked Slatington Police Chief Greg Winokur and the Slatington Police Department, as well as other first responders, and especially St. John’s UCC.
“We have very good cooperation between the three counties; Lehigh, Carbon, and Northampton,” Hausman said. “Everyone worked together to make sure the residents were safe, given a place to stay, and helped bring them back.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
