Poem by Jillian Franko

Jillian Franko wrote this poem about her journey with Larsen’s Syndrome and her artwork.

And then she started to wonder

Just where her journey might go

If she stopped watching others

While wallowing in her woes.

She turned to what made her happy

Using her one hand to create

Lines with paint and pencils

Some curvy, while others straight.

Her process was quite different

Since her arms could not extend,

A whole canvas would be too hard

To reach from end to end

But smaller pieces, she could work with

As they fell within her reach

She didn’t have to struggle

To paint it piece by piece.

Piece by piece they formed together

A small part of the greater whole

She carefully crafted each part

With every bit of her soul.

The world around her kept moving,

But she didn’t seem to mind

In art, she created her purpose

That she always hoped she’d find!

That day she started to see

Her path in a new light

She realized her differences

Weren’t things she had to fight.
