Hickory Run voted hidden gem for fall colors

Hickory Run State Park was voted the top hidden gem for fall foliage in Pennsylvania in a survey conducted by Mixbook, a photo book brand.

Of 3,000 people surveyed, Hickory Run was the top vote-getter with Oil Creek State Park (Venango County) second and Worlds End State Park (Sullivan County) third in Pennsylvania.

In the national rankings, Hickory Run was 30th, with Oil Creek 60th and Worlds End 64th.

In addition to an array of fall colors, Hickory Run also has hiking trails and is a relatively lightly used state park for leaf peeping, meaning plenty of photo opportunities in serene spots.

The 3,000 respondents were asked which under-the-radar destinations they would most like to visit to see fall foliage this year.

The top spot was Sterling Forest State Park in New York, with Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan coming in second.

Bear Creek Lake State Park in Virginia was third.

Rounding out the Top 10 were:

• Mount Greylock State Reservation, Massachusetts.

• Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Maine.

• High Bridge Trail State Park, Virginia.

• Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio.

• Beartooth Highway, Montana.

• Fall Creek Falls State Park, Tennessee.

• 10 Hope Valley, California.

“We hope these stunning, hidden gems across the U.S. inspire people to pack their bags and experience some incredible fall destinations firsthand,” said Leslie Albertson, Director of Brand at Mixbook.

“Even better, these fall spots make the perfect backdrop for this year’s family photos, to share in a holiday card or gift in a photo book.”
