Lehigh Valley crashes

State police in Bethlehem reported on the following crashes:

• A Stroudsburg man was injured and cited after a vehicle he was driving at a high rate of speed on Route 22 in Bethlehem Township struck three cars, including one driven by a Slatington woman, and overturned multiple times.

Police said it happened at 6:17 a.m. Aug. 26, resulting in Marinus Hook, 57, being transported by personnel from the Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, Easton.

Police said he was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition in the left lane of Route. 22 eastbound, when it crossed over the medial and struck a 2016 Toyota Camry operated by Jeffrey P. Yannello, 63, of Bethlehem.

After the initial impact, police said Hook attempted to correct the vehicle by pulling left but overcompensated and struck a 1994 Dodge driven by Aida E. Chambers, 42, of Bethlehem. Police said Hook overcompensated again, at which time the Expedition struck the concrete median, causing it to overturn numerous times before striking a 2020 Mazda driven by Sarah A. Stafirny, 30, of Slatington.

Police said Yannello was possibly injured but refused a medical transport.

They said the Expedition and Camry had severe disabling damages while the Dodge and Mazda had drivable damages.

Hook was cited for careless driving.

• A 40-year-old woman from Whitehall is being charged for driving under the influence of alcohol after a crash that happened at 11:32 p.m. Aug. 23 on Airport Road in Hanover Township. Police said they made contact with her at an area hospital due to her leaving the scene. The victim is a 32-year-old man from Walnutport. Police said the charged involved a 2020 BMW and a 2020 Kawasaki.

• Barry G. Morales, 66, of Slatington, was cited after an incident at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 12 on Rextown Road in Washington Township. He was uninjured. Police said he was driving in reverse eastbound in a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 in the driveway at 7847 Rextown Road when it struck a 2009 GMC Acadia. Police said Morales fled the scene, traveling south on Rextown Road. He was later located and charged accordingly.

• Tammy L. Burns, 55, of Albrightsville, escaped injuries in a crash at 4:20 p.m. Aug. 21 on the Beth Bath Pike in East Allen Township. Police said she was driving a 2020 Ford Escape that was struck by the trailing unit of a GMC vehicle that was northbound when the driver attempted to negotiate a lane change. Police said the GMC never stopped and continued northbound.

• Charges are pending against Edward T. Bonner, 54, of Schnecksville, who was involved in a one-vehicle crash at 7:40 p.m. Aug. 11 on Route 329 in North Whitehall Township. Police said he was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt that went off the road and striking multiple signs and utility poles. Police said he was not hurt. They said he will be charged accordingly, pending blood test results.

• Carol A. Miklos, 58, of Walnutport, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 10:40 p.m. Aug. 14 on Kreidersville Road in Allen Township. Police said she was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala northbound when a tree came down in her lane of travel. Police said she swerved the vehicle to avoid striking the tree and the car exited the roadway and traveled into a ditch. Police said the vehicle sunk into the mud and needed to be towed from the ditch, during which time the muffler came off the car. It was towed from the scene.

• Shawn M. Vasquez, 28, of Allentown, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 7:53 p.m. Aug. 10 on U.S. Route 22 in Hanover Township. Police said he was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu that was merging from Route 512 onto Route 22 when it struck a 2016 Jeep Renegade operated by Toni M. Angello-Wheeler, 54, of Kunkletown. Police said Vasquez fled the scene while the Renegade sustained functional damages. No one was injured in the incident.

• Police said a driver fled the scene of a crash at 2:03 p.m. Sept. 13 in the parking lot of Lehigh Carbon Community College. Police said a vehicle struck another vehicle that was legally parked in Lot F at the campus on Educational park Drive, North Whitehall Township. The parked vehicle had minor damages to its front, passenger-side quarter panel.
