NY company to do imagery for Carbon

Carbon County is using a New York company to get updated aerial pictures of the area.

On Thursday, the county commissioners approved an agreement with Pictometry International Corp. - doing business as EagleView of Rochester, New York - for two flight six-inch aerial ortho imagery and six-inch oblique imagery capture by EagleView for a six-year term. The total cost per year is $21,420.

Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the flyover photography will take place in the spring of 2024 and again in 2027.

The aerial images are then used through the GIS department to create comprehensive digital maps of the municipalities within the county.

These images are used for a variety of reasons, including real estate, assessments, parcel location, emergency services and more.

Carbon County first hired Pictometry in December 2017 to complete aerial images, including building outlines for emergency responses. A flyover was completed in 2018.

Before that, the county had not completed an aerial photography project since 2008.

Neighboring Monroe County, last year, hired Pictometry for a second round of aerial photos for the county at a cost of $120,000 for two flyovers.
