Area crashes

State police reported on area crashes involving local residents:

• John P. Vitek III, 23, of Danielsville, was cited by state police at Belfast for failure to drive at a safe speed after a crash at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 27 on Route 33 in Palmer Township.

Police said he was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat that failed to slow down for stopped traffic in front of his car. The Passat rear-ended a 2018 Jeep Compass driven by Lindsay M. Hayes, 31, of Coopersburg, and continued to strike a 2-18 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by Megan L. West, 30, of Easton. Police said all three vehicles were towed from the scene.

They said no one was injured in the incident.

• Two Coaldale residents and one from Zephyrhills were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:44 p.m. Aug. 10 on Interstate 78 in Upper Saucon Township.

The driver, Charles E. Lash Jr., 38, and a passenger, Brandy R. Reinhart, 42, both of Coaldale, and a second passenger, Dominick J. Nansteel, 19, of Zephyrhills, were all transported by emergency personnel to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, according to state police at the Fogelsville barracks, who said they had minor injuries.

Police said they were in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer that crashed and rolled over in the area of mile marker 59.

• A 2023 Toyota RAV4 driven by Bonnie L. Payonk, 59, of Palmerton, was towed from the scene of a crash at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 14 on Interstate 78 in Salisbury Township.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks said it was struck from behind by a 2109 Nissan Sentra driven by Shameka M. Springer, 37 of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Both vehicles were southbound at the time, when Springer fell asleep while driving. Her car sustained minor damages.

Police said no one was injured.

Springer was cited for the incident.
