Man charged in domestic assault

A Lansford man faces multiple charges, including felony strangulation, following a domestic dispute early Wednesday.

Damian Strausberger, 22, of East Snyder Avenue, was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Homanko on charges of strangulation, simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment.

He was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Sept. 27.

Lansford police responded to a domestic assault on East Snyder Avenue at 4:10 a.m., and found a woman standing in the rain crying and holding a newborn, court papers said.

Strausberger was on the porch of the home and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, court papers said. Police observed red blood marks and bruising on the woman’s neck.

Strausberger resisted police’s attempts to take him into custody, despite numerous verbal commands, court papers said.

The woman told police that Strausberger began yelling at her and grabbing her face, and she kicked him to get away. He then put his hands around her throat and she could not breathe, court papers said.
