Nesquehoning Borough Council

Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on or discussed the following items during its monthly meeting last week.

• Approved two proposed subdivisions in the borough that were approved by the borough planning commission.

• Approved a new fireworks ordinance to outline the use of fireworks in the borough.

The ordinance establishes the rules and regulation for use of consumer fireworks for personal use and not for display purposes.

It outlines where a person may not discharge fireworks, the times fireworks are not allowed and the penalties associated with violating the ordinance.

• Approved Nesquehoning Hose Company’s request to attend several events in the area.

• Approved purchasing tires for a police vehicle from Snyder Tire in Lehighton for $730.32.

• Councilman Bruce Nalesnik reported that the borough secured Community Development Block Grant funds for the reconstruction of the second block of East Diaz Avenue. This project will occur next year.

• Nalesnik also reported that the research portion of a grant application for the paving of Industrial Road has been started. It is anticipated that the paving project would cost approximately $1 million.

• Approved renewing Water Mechanics’ contract for services as needed with the sewer plant at the same rates as 2022.

• Councilwoman Abbie Guardiani reminded residents that an electronic recycling event will take place from 2-5 p.m. or until the truck is full on Sept. 6 along Locust Street.

• Councilwoman Lois Kuba reported that the memorial bench program is well underway and thanked everyone who has helped with the project to date. The benches will be placed around the borough as they are completed.

• The borough website update is continuing and the borough is closer to launching its new site.
