Woman, 43, faces charges after early-morning crash in Tamaqua

Tamaqua police charged a New Philadelphia woman with driving under the influence and careless driving after she crashed her car into a parked vehicle early Tuesday morning.

According to police, officers were dispatched to a report of an accident with injuries on West Broad Street (Route 209) near Hope’s gas station. Upon arrival, police spoke to the driver, Tina M. Kling, 43, who was still seated and said she was having pain in her neck and chest. Police said she admitted to drinking and taking prescription medication.

Officers said Kling attempted to turn right onto West Broad Street from Swatara Street around 2:30 a.m. and crashed into a parked car. The car then struck the rear of another parked vehicle. Both vehicles suffered minor to moderate damage, police said.

Kling was taken to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital by Lehighton Ambulance and initially consented to a blood test. Police said when she was asked to sign the form to allow the blood draw, she did not. As a result, she was charged with driving under the influence.
