Pleasant Valley awards $3.1M contract for HVAC work

The Pleasant Valley School Board accepted a $3.1 million bid for replacement of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment throughout the district at its meeting Aug. 10.

Myco Mechanical Inc. in Telford was awarded the contract for $3,074,000, plus $64,000 for exterior stairs at the middle school. The total amount is $3,138,000. The project will be paid from federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds.

There were two other companies that submitted bids for the project. One was JBM Mechanical Inc. with a bid of $3.4 million, and Trefz Mechanical Inc. with a bid of $3.2 million.

The school board did not have any questions and did not make any comment about the contracts being approved last week.

However, William Gasper, now retired as the director of operations, discussed the boilers at the elementary and middle schools, at a workshop in spring. The work includes replacing six boilers in the middle school boiler room and three boilers in the elementary school boiler room. The boilers at the middle school run on propane and the ones at the elementary school run on propane and oil. A completion date of August 2024 is anticipated. “It should be a real good, efficient system once it’s all done,” he said.
