A Lansford man faces multiple charges after a series of incidents, including displaying a homemade weapon, Friday afternoon.
Jonathan D. Eckerd, 33, was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail on charges of retail theft, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and possession of an offensive weapon.
According to arrest papers, Eckerd became irate and displayed a homemade, four-pointed throwing knife after being unable to purchase a pack of cigarettes at the Turkey Hill in Lansford.
He left the store without paying for an extra large fountain drink valued at $1.58, police said.
Officers then got a second call from Boyer’s Market, saying Eckerd was in the store and no longer had permission to be there.
Staff advised police that Eckerd was putting merchandise in his backpack, and police found two energy drinks, a pack of toaster pastries and pudding packs valued at $9.83 in his backpack, court papers said.
Police said they also found the large, homemade star throwing knife.
Eckerd also faces charges in two other incidents in Lansford in late July and early August. Charges in those incidents involve possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and retail theft.
