A Lehighton woman has been charged with stealing a purse that had cash in it from a downtown business.

Lehighton Police were dispatched at 5:15 p.m. Friday to Salon Indigo in the 100 block of South First Street for a theft report.

Police talked to a woman, who reported her wallet was stolen.

The woman left her purse on an outdoor seat and surveillance video showed a woman, identified as Trista Biechy, take the purse.

Police contacted Biechy, 27, and eventually recovered the purse, which police said was missing $60.

Biechy was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

The charges were approved by the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office.

Biechy was sent to the Carbon County Correctional Facility on the charges.
