AAA East Central and the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force are hosting an event in Allentown on Tuesday to replace peeling Pennsylvania license plates for free.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at AAA office at 2072 Downyflake Lane, Allentown.

In Pennsylvania, vehicle owners can be pulled over and fined up to $100 for having a license plate that is deemed illegible.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, a license plate is deemed illegible when one or more characters cannot be recognized from 50 feet, or if the plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity.
