Tamaqua museum gets local signs

The Tamaqua Historical Society recently had three vintage illuminated signs restored and will display them inside the museum.

One Wenzel’s Bakery sign and the Moose sign are neon.

The neon Wenzel’s sign dates from the 1950s and hung on the front oval window of the East Broad Street bakery until it closed in 2006.

The Moose sign dates to the 1920s or 1930s and hung at the lodge’s 133 E. Broad St. building, which will be renovated to include a new Tamaqua police station and community center.

The other Wenzel’s sign is double-sided and dates to the 1930s. It was cracked and restored to its original look
