Tornado confirmed in Allentown

The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey, confirmed a tornado touched down in Allentown Monday night.

The weather service said Tuesday night it has conducted a storm survey for the Midway Manor section of Allentown in Lehigh County in relation to the severe thunderstorms that moved through the area on Monday.

The survey team confirmed that the extensive damage that occurred was from a tornado.

A full assessment is expected to be released today.

A severe thunderstorm moved through the rest of the region, knocking out power to thousands, temporarily halting Musikfest in Bethlehem and the Carbon County fair.

As of Wednesday morning electricity was restored to most of the customers in the area. About 3,000 customers are still without power in Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton counties.

Tuesday morning, there were 106 customers without power in Carbon County; 11,236 in Lehigh County, 2,208 in Monroe County, 5,518 in Northampton County, and 45 in Schuylkill County.
