An inmate at the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning faces 12 counts of identity theft.
Jovanny Cintron, 27, was arraigned Tuesday on the charge by District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, who set bail at $5,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 16.
According to court papers, Cintron obtained another inmate’s PIN for the inmate phone system, racking up about $50 in charges for 12 phone calls made the first two weeks of January.
The funds were deducted from the victim’s account, and the victim verified that he did not make the calls to phone numbers in question. All of the phone numbers were to numbers normally called by Cintron, court papers said.
