Carbon reviews bids for courthouse

One contractor on Carbon County’s courthouse renovation project withdrew his bid on a plumbing contract.

Dwight Eisenhouser of JBM Mechanical Inc. withdrew a bid for plumbing construction – one of four contracts county commissioners expect to award in two weeks.

The commissioners opened bids for the 130-year-old landmark in the heart of Jim Thorpe a week ago amid some confusion.

The bids came in through PennBid, an online bidding platform used for projects throughout the state, and the total bids from all 11 contractors were read for the general construction contract.

The county later determined that only one contractor, CMG of Easton Inc., bid on that contract. That bid with alternatives for stair treads and a landing, and historic tile was $1,605,000.

For the mechanical contract, JBM Mechanical Inc. was the low bidder at $2,020,000, with Myco Mechanical Inc. bidding at $2,065,000. Both include an alternate for boilers and pumps.

On the electrical contract, bids included G.R. Noto Electrical Inc., $1,080,000, the apparent low bidder; Shannon A. Smith Inc., $1,223,200; George J. Hayden Inc., $1,266,350; U.S. Solutions, $1,551,000; and Wind Gap Electrical, $1,566,770.

For plumbing, bids with alternates for ceiling trays and boilers and pumps, included JBM Mechanical at $348,000, the apparent low bid, which was withdrawn; K.C. Mechanical Inc., $447,000, the next lowest bid; O&M Multi-Trade Inc., $496,843, Myco Mechanical Inc., $504,000, and Bognet Inc., $987,654.

The county listed all of the bids as a correction to the minutes on the commissioners’ meeting agenda on Thursday.
