Schuylkill commissioners table tax sales of 5 properties

The repository sales of five Schuylkill County properties, including one in Coaldale, were put off until the Schuylkill County Commissioners meeting next Thursday.

The properties, the remaining four of which are in Wayne Township, were on the county commissioners’ meeting agenda to be approved.

Repository sales are held after tax delinquent properties have failed to be bought at the first two sales, upset and judicial sales.

The Lake Wynonah properties were to be sold to JMAC Realty for $500 each; the Coaldale property would go to Anthony Frias Nunez for $1,355.

After former candidate Jeffrey Dunkel questioned the sales, Commissioner Gary J. Hess asked whether the sales were properly done.

“Commissioner, my understanding is the Tax Claim Office has a process in which they accept repository offers, based on supporting documentation stating that the price that is offered is reasonable,” said First Assistant Solicitor/Risk Manager Glenn T. Roth Jr.

Hess and Commissioners Chairman Barron L. Hetherington voted to table the matter until commissioners meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. Commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr. voted against the delay.
