Coaldale’s National Night Out brought hundreds to the Coaldale Complex Field Tuesday evening.
Attendees could meet local police officers, mingle with Smokey Bear or McGruff the Crime Dog, and pick up information from a host of community organizations.
There was even a magic show complete with a disappearing rabbit - and free cotton candy and hot dogs to those who worked up an appetite.
The Coaldale Community Crime Watch and Coaldale Borough Police Department worked together to organize the event.
As festivities were underway, Crime Watch members Steve Teeno and Yvonne Stoffey presented police officers with gifts to help keep them safe.
The Guardian Angel safety lights can be worn on officers’ shoulders while they’re at work, Teeno said.
“This way, they are visible during night traffic stops. You can see the lights on the police vehicles but you can’t always see the officers,” he said.
