Volunteer firemen from American Fire Company No. 1, Lansford, tipped their hats in a tribute Saturday night at the Lansford AMVETS Post Home to salute former Fire Chief Norman Tippett and recognize the distinguished careers of four past assistant chiefs and 23 firefighters who served the community for more than 50 years.

About 140 firemen, wives and guests attended the event where Tippett was recognized, having retired at the end of 1975 after 30 years of service to the company, including 23 years as fire chief.

The retired assistant chiefs who were recognized included Daniel Williams, Irwin Forgay, Richard Depuy and E. Leonard Garland.
