2 charged in brass knuckle assault, S. Hill break-in

Two men face charges after a break-in and brass knuckle assault in a Summit Hill home early Saturday morning.

Devin S. Hinkle, 26, of Lehighton, and Austin S. Hinkle, of Summit Hill, were charged with burglary, aggravated assault, criminal trespass and simple assault. Devin Hinkle is also charged with the use of incapacitation device.

Both men were remanded to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning. Bail was set at $100,000 for Devin Hinkle, and $50,000 for Austin Hinkle.

According to court papers, Summit Hill police responded to 119 E. Fell St. for two men entering the home through a window with an air conditioner.

Inside the home, Devin and Austin Hinkle assaulted two men.

One man, who sustained an injury to the back of the head, said he was struck multiple times with brass knuckles by Devin HInkle, who also struck the second man in the face, court papers said.

The men told police they were also attacked by Austin Hinkle, court papers said.

The assault started at the top of the stairs and continued down the stairs in a small hallway to the front door. Furniture was damaged, and there was a large amount of blood on the floor and walls, court papers said.

The Hinkles fled in a white vehicle and went to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Carbon, where they were detained. Devin Hinkle was treated at the hospital, court papers said.

Both men were taken to the Summit Hill police station and refused to give statements.
