Schuylkill County Fair opening day Monday

The gates to the 40th annual Schuylkill County Fair will open at 4 p.m. Monday for six days of fun at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds, 2270 Fair Road, Schuylkill Haven.

The theme for 2023 is “40 Years of Growing the Future” and vendors, amusements and programs are on tap each day.

Monday is “Pulling Day” and begins at 4 p.m. The Queen and Princess Contest begins at 4 p.m., followed by a tractor parade at 4:30 p.m. Past fair queens will be introduced at 5:45 p.m., followed by royalty crowning at 6 p.m. Also at 6 p.m., Porcupine Pat McKinney from the Schuylkill County Conservation District will present Appalachian Mountain Old Time Toys. Dairy judging is at 6:15 p.m., and the 4-by-4 diesel and gas truck pull begins at 7 p.m. At 7 and 9 p.m., the New Individuals will perform.

Tuesday is “Kids’ Day” and gates open at 11 a.m. There will be a touch-a-truck from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and kids’ contests every half-hour beginning at noon. The Schuylkill Ballet Theater performs at 1 p.m. followed by a tractor parade at 1:30 p.m. Rounding out the evening is a pedal tractor pull, 5:30 p.m.; Ways of Wildlife with Porcupine Pat, 6 p.m.; performances by Sapphire, 7 and 9 p.m.; and East Coast Pro Pulling, 7 p.m.

Wednesday is “Military Day” and the fair opens at 4 p.m. Rides open at 4 p.m. followed by a tractor pull at 4:30 p.m. A presentation of colors will be held by the Veterans of Vietnam War at 5 p.m., and a celebrity tractor pull gets underway at 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., Dave “Big Owl” McSurdy will present “Indians of PA” and a Livestock Skill-A-Thon will be held. At 7 p.m., there will be farm stock pulls. The Uptown Band performs at 7 and 9 p.m. A boilo contest begins at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday is “Senior Appreciation Day” and the fair opens at 11 a.m. Rides open and livestock buyers check-in at 4 p.m. A tractor parade will be held at 4:30 p.m. and the livestock auction and awards begin at 5 p.m. Cornhole registration is at 5 p.m. and the tournament follows at 6 p.m. A program on insects will be held at 6 p.m., and Shawn Klush “Ultimate Elvis” performs at 7 and 9 p.m.

Friday is “Country Day” with gates opening at 4 p.m. Rides also open at 4 p.m., and the tractor parade is at 4:30 p.m. “Native Reptiles of PA” and a threshing demonstration will be held at 6 p.m. A kids and adult hay bale toss will be held at 7 p.m. DJ Chicken Nugget will lead line dancing at 7 p.m., and Heather Olson and the Silver Eagle Band will have a tribute to Patsy Kline at 7 and 9 p.m.

Saturday is “Schuylkill County Day” and gates open at 11 a.m. The 4-H/FFA Master Showman contests starts at 11 a.m., and a tractor parade begins at 1:30 p.m. Livestock judging is at 3 p.m. and rides open and a kiddie parade begin at 4 p.m. The princess parade will be held at 5 p.m., and the “Wide World of Exotics” program gets underway at 6 p.m. The Mudflaps Reunion will be held with performances at 7 and 9 p.m.
