The Rev. Robert F. Valent, son of Mrs. Anna Valent, 218 W. Hazard St., Summit Hill, and the late Joseph S. Valent, was recently appointed superior of the Franciscan Monastery in Pittsburgh.

Father Valent, 40, is one of a family of 12 children. He has served at the monastery in Pittsburgh for the past three years, where he was in charge of the Third Order of St. Francis.

He entered St. Bonaventure Minor Seminary Sturtevant, Wisconsin, in 1939, and was ordained in 1950 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, after which time he celebrated his first Mass on June 18 of that year in his home church, St. Michael’s Church, Lansford.
