Lehighton man charged with stalking woman

A Lehighton man on bail has been charged with stalking a woman, and then taking her car keys and driving off with her vehicle.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by the Kidder Township Police Department in the case against Derek Hedmeck:

At 10 p.m. July 17, police interviewed a woman in the Pine Point Plaza about a domestic incident. She told police that she was being stalked by Hedmeck, 33.

She said that Hedmeck had come to her place of work after she finished her shift and tried to talk to her.

She said she tried to leave, but Hedmeck grabbed the keys from her car’s ignition, and took off.

The woman told police that Hedmeck lives on Jefferson Street in the Lehighton area.

Franklin Township police went to the residence on Jefferson Street and detained Hedmeck, who was then turned over to Kidder Township police.

Police interviewed Hedmeck who said that he did meet the woman at her place of work, had a conversation with her, and did take the car keys from her.

Hedmeck also said that he was on bail for stalking charges involving the woman.

Hedmeck faces charges of stalking, theft by unlawful taking, and harassment.

He is in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Aug. 16 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
