A Schuylkill County man was jailed on charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property filed against him by the Rush Township Police Department.
Jason Ashfield, 46, of Delano Township was sent to prison after failing to post the $10,000 cash bail set by Tamaqua Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer.
According to police, officers were called to a home on Crest Street at 6:37 a.m. July 6 for a report of a trespasser. Police said the man had left the property before they arrived.
At 9:35 a.m. that day, police were sent to a home on Ben Titus Road where a woman said her ex-husband, Jason Ashfield, was in her driveway with an orange Volvo. She provided a photo of Ashfield to police, and the resident of the Crest Street home said it was the same man who was at his property.
A short time later, at 11:41 a.m., police said they were sent to another home on Crest Street for a report of a stolen vehicle. The woman told police she left her keys in her 2012 Volvo. The home is close to the first home officers were called to, police said.
At 12:08 p.m. July 6, a man on Wohnhaas Lane called Schuylkill County Communications Center to report a vehicle on his property. It was the 2012 Volvo that was reported missing earlier.
Police said that at 7:55 a.m. July 7, officers were dispatched to another property on Wohnhaas Lane for a man sleeping under a tree. The man was identified as Ashfield, and police said they took him into custody.
On July 12, a resident of Delano, Mahanoy Township, emailed photos of Ashfield with the stolen vehicle. Police said he was wearing the same shirt he had when taken into custody.
Police was also charged Ashfield with criminal mischief.
