Man arrested in Carbon wanted in NY double murder

A New York man charged after police stopped him in Carbon County is now facing charges in a double homicide in Rotterdam, New York.

Anthony J. Lewis Jr., 31, was charged by state police at Fern Ridge on July 8 with possessing a small amount of marijuana, an expired license, speeding and other traffic violations, according to Pennsylvania court records.

Court records say he refused to talk to police and was denied bail.

He pleaded guilty last Wednesday to the drug charge in front of district Judge Joseph J. Homanko Jr.

Homanko’s court.

According to a release from Rotterdam Police Department on Wednesday, police have issued a warrant in the stabbing deaths of his mother, Cathy Guillaume, 65, and his stepfather, Robert Guillaume, 73. He lived with the couple in Rotterdam, according to various news reports.

Police, charging him as a fugitive from justice, said he is awaiting extradition.

A New York criminal complaint says Lewis intentionally caused the death of the couple by stabbing them “multiple times with sharp instruments” sometime between July 4 and July 5.

Police said the charges were first-degree murder.

In addition to multiple New York investigators, Rotterdam Police said they worked with Pennsylvania State Police, Luzerne County detectives and Plain Township police departments. He has been in custody in Pennsylvania since July 7.

The investigation is ongoing.
