Towamensing advanced to the championship round of the Section 6 8-10 softball tournament with a victory over Warrington on Thursday.

DISTRICT 18 SOFTBALL

Towamensing-Warrington

Towamensing posted a 10-4 victory over Warrington to earn a berth in the championship round of the Section 6 8-10 softball tournament.

The winners jumped out to an early lead, scoring three times in the first inning.

Madison Flexer delivered an RBI double during a four-run sixth frame to seal the victory for Towamensing.

Isabella Marques allowed just two hits and struck out 15 to gain the win. In two games during the Sectional tournament, Marques has fanned 33 batters.

Marques and Sofia Bebscoter both finished with multiple hits for Towamensing, which also excelled on the base paths. Eight of its players stole at least two bases, with Abigail Marques swiping a team-high five.

Towamensing can wrap up the title Saturday morning when it meets the winner of West End and Warrington. If Towamensing would lose that Saturday contest, it would play again Sunday for the championship.

BLUE MOUNTAIN LEAGUE

Berlinsville-Hellertown

Hellertown pushed across four runs in the second inning and made that lead stand up as the Royals gained a 4-2 Blue Mountain League victory over the Berlinsville Braves.

For the second game in a row, the Braves were hurt by their defense, as all four runs they allowed were unearned.

Berlinsville starter Jeff Higgins pitched all six innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out four.

Jim Thorpe grad Noah Snisky reached base twice with a hit and a walk, and also stole a base. Owen Ness finished with two hits and a run, while Shane Filliman added a hit and knocked in both of the Braves’ runs.

Jeff LaPorta earned the win, striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Lincoln Hower and Danny Blugies both had a hit and an RBI for the Royals (9-14).

The loss dropped Berlinsville to 10-13.
